Ronaldinho – Brazilian footballer usually playing as a midfielder or striker, 2002 world champion, two-time South American champion, winner of the Champions League 2006. He has Brazilian and Spanish citizenship.
He was twice recognized as the Footballer of the Year by FIFA (2004, 2005) and UEFA in 2005, and the France Football magazine in 2005 awarded him with the Golden Ball. Considered one of the best players of his generation and considered by many to be one of the best players of all time. He was known for his technical skills and creativity; thanks to their agility, speed and dribbling ability, as well as precise free, penalty and penalty kicks.
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira was born on March 21, 1980 in Porto Alegre. He spent his childhood in one of the poor districts of this city – Vila Nova. His schoolmates called him a black sniper for goals, because his football talent was already visible in elementary school. He lived there with his father, João, a shipyard worker and former footballer, Migeulina’s mother, a sales clerk, a nurse by education, and two older siblings, brother Roberto and sister Deisi. He also played futsal at the time.
Brother Roberto de Assis Moreira was a professional footballer. He played, among others in France. Thanks to his earnings, the whole family moved from the poverty district to a luxurious villa with a pool. It was in this pool that João died of a heart attack. Ronaldinho was 8 years old at the time of his father’s death. From then on, he became very much acquainted with his mother Miguelina, while his older brother, Roberto, took over the role of the father of the family. The latter, when he had to prematurely end his football career due to injury, became an agent of a talented younger brother.
On January 25, 2005 João came to the world – son of Ronaldinho and Janaina Natielle Viana Mendes. The child was given the name after the deceased grandfather.
At the end of 2006, Ronaldinho opened the “Ronaldinho Institute” in São Paulo, where children from poor families can improve their football skills.
The Grêmio Porto Alegre activists noticed the Brazilian’s talent and Ronaldinho started his first football steps in this club. It is worth mentioning here quite an unusual event – in one of the meetings of youth teams scored 23 goals, including 2 directly from corners. Ronaldinho won his first trophy at the World Cup until 17 years, on the occasion of becoming the king of shooters. Thanks to such promising beginnings of his career, he did not have to wait long for the debut in the senior team. At the side of the biggest stars of the Brazilian football, he played against Latvia in a 3-0 victory by the Brazilians. In 1999 he went to the Copa America tournament, won by Canarinhos, where in 4 matches he scored one goal (goal scored in a match against Venezuela). Gaucho charmed Grêmio’s fans with his skills and character so much that the club’s activists refused to let him transfer because they were afraid of fanatical supporters. However, in 2001, Ronaldinho moved to Paris Saint-Germain for 9 million euros. The Brazilian had the opportunity to go to much more powerful clubs, such as Barcelona, Real or Inter Milan. The decision, however, turned out to be correct, the young player played well enough to get a representation to Luiza Felipe Scolari, thanks to which he could make his debut at the world championships. On the fields of Japan and Korea, canarinhos became world champions, and Ronaldinho contributed significantly to this success.
A great performance at the World Cup meant that the best football clubs in Europe began to apply for the acquisition of a Brazilian. Manchester United, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona fought the fight for Ronaldinho. The English club needed a successor for David Beckham, Real was looking for another star, and Barca had to strengthen after the failed season. Eventually, the Brazilian came to the club from the Catalan capital, and 32.25 million euros came to the Paris club. As it was not difficult to predict, he quickly became the star of the team. In his first season (2003/2004) he scored 15 goals, but not scoring goals was his most important task, just finesse. In the next season, the president, Joan Laporta, made transfers that significantly strengthened the team’s squad. The attitude of Ronaldinho and the whole team led to the Spanish championship in the 2004/2005 season.
In the 2005/2006 season FC Barcelona again won the championship of Spain and won the Champions League victory. Ronaldinho played a very important role by shooting, among others 2 Real Madrid goals in the derby of Spain (Real Madrid 0: 3 FC Barcelona). The next season (2006/2007) was a very fierce fight for the Spanish championship and in the first half of the season Ronaldinho tried as best he could and even in the absence of Eto’o he fought for the title of the best marksman, but when Eto’o came back and joined Messi (around the beginning of the second mid-season), very well assisted teammates. In March he suffered injury and did not play until the end of the 2007/2008 season. It was also suggested that the lack of a Brazilian in the composition was caused by a weak form.
Since the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, Ronaldinho has been in the A.C. team. Milan. The first goal for “Rossoners”, he scored in a derby match against Inter Milan – 28 September, won 1: 0.
In the winter break of the 2010/2011 season, Ronaldinho changed his club to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro. The transfer value was EUR 3 million. May 31, 2012 due to the financial arrears of the club against him, he terminated the contract in court. Four days later he became a player of Atlético Mineiro. On September 5, 2014, he signed a contract with the Mexican team Querétaro FC. Later he performed in Fluminense FC. In 2018 he ended his football career.
In January 2019 he began appearing in the Brazilian national team on Beach Soccer. In a match in which the Brazilians won Japan 11: 4, he scored three goals in his debut
